About the event Documentary Filmmaking Field Expedition Module Duration: One Month Overview: The Documentary Filmmaking Field Expedition is an immersive course designed to provide participants with comprehensive knowledge and hands-on experience in creating compelling documentaries. Over the course of one month, students will embark on an exciting journey, learning various aspects of documentary filmmaking while exploring unique locations and engaging with diverse communities. Module Content: Week 1: Introduction to Documentary Filmmaking - Understanding the art and purpose of documentary filmmaking - Exploring different documentary styles and genres - Learning about documentary ethics and responsible storytelling - Introduction to camera equipment, sound recording, and essential filmmaking gear Week 2: Pre-production and Planning - Research techniques and finding compelling documentary subjects - Conducting interviews and building relationships with subjects - Crafting a documentary concept and developing a production plan - Storyboarding and scripting the documentary narrative Week 3: Production and Fieldwork - Hands-on experience in shooting footage in various real-world environments - Techniques for capturing authentic and emotionally engaging visuals - Practical lessons in sound recording and managing on-location challenges - Collaborating with team members and managing production logistics Week 4: Post-production and Editing - Introduction to video editing software and workflow - Structuring the documentary narrative through editing - Incorporating music, sound design, and graphics - Fine-tuning the final product and delivering a polished documentary Field Expedition Activities: - Visiting diverse locations to capture footage and stories from different communities and cultures. - Conducting interviews with locals to document their perspectives and experiences. - Immersing in local traditions, events, and festivals to enrich the documentary content. - Documenting wildlife, natural landscapes, and environmental issues. - Analyzing and discussing previously produced documentaries to gain insights into different filmmaking approaches.
